This medallion shows the mighty Saguaro cactus (Carnegiea gigantea)- icon of the Sonoran Desert. These giants are the largest cactus in North America- reaching 40-60 feet into the air. They begin growing their iconic arms at 50-75 years old, and it is not uncommon for them to live 175-200 years.

To some tribal nations, this cactus is held in sacred status. The desert southwest is known for its iconic and vibrant sunsets, as well as its stargazing and of course its stunning turquoise.

This piece seeks to embody the beauty of the Sonoran desert both from within the ground, above the surface, and in the skies above. Size 15 glass seed beads. Natural color buckskin (lace and backing).
