Native American Santo Domingo Kewa Wood Hand Carved Storyteller Necklace Vintage. This magnificent Native American necklace features central storyteller holding two babies. On each side of her are five children. Each of the hand-carved and hand-painted figures are separated by wood and silver beads.
Traditionally, Santo Domingo Pueblo (also known as Kewa Pueblo) storyteller necklaces depict a central figure, usually a male or female adult storyteller, surrounded by children. These figures are symbolic of the oral tradition of storytelling and the passing down of culture and traditions across generations. The necklace measures 26 long. The central storyteller figure is 2 tall. This lovely Native American Santo Domingo wood-carved storyteller necklace is in very nice vintage condition, as shown in the photos.
The paint is chipped off some of the figures and a couple of the beads. Please see the photos as they are part of the description and to assess the condition. Feel free to ask questions.
