Native American Indian Antique Brain Tanned Deerskin Hand Beaded Leather Vest
Antique Native American brain-tanned, fringed, deerskin, hand-beaded, leather vest. I often wore it for the first ten or so years I owned it, but then I hung it on my wall for display and that's where it has been ever since. Brian felt it was made sometime around or after 1920. He was not able to identify the tribal affiliation, only to say. It appeared to be from a Plains Indian tribe. One thing I love about it is that the beaded front flowers are so very different from the ones beaded on the back, which look almost geometric. Also, the bottom fringe is doubled.
When I wore this vest, I was a ladies size medium (10-12). It measures 16 inches across the front, armpit to armpit. It needs cleaning after years of hanging on the wall.
