Brown Leather Native American Style Dress with Shells, a beaded collar, horse hair, white mink pelts and other beads and decorations. The dress is in 2 pieces with a long under dress and the beaded collar shawl type over piece. We do not know the age or maker of this dress but it is most likely made for a costume after 1950.

It has Zuni fetishes and the Cowrie shells are what the Crow and Plateau tribes used. The under dress measures approximately 13 inches across the top from outer end of shoulder to outer end of shoulder with the neck opening approximately 7 inches across. It measures approximately 42 inches from the center back top of the neck to the bottom excluding the approximately 9 inch fringe. Approximately 21 inches from outer lower arm opening to the opposite lower arm opening.

The beaded shawl measures approximately 11 inches across the neck opening and 24 inches from top to bottom at the longest area excluding fringe. The dress is not symmetrical and the fringe varies in length from approximately 2 inches long to 15 inches long. The dress has signs of use including some holes and missing beads but is overall in good condition.
