This large choker style Necklace was made for an Apache Puberty ceremony. Traditional Apache girls coming of age participate in the Sunrise Ceremony to mark this passage. A Necklace like this one is part of the traditional clothing for the ceremony.
This Necklace features a White Seed Bead background with colorful geometric designs in Yellow, Red, Orange, Turquoise, and Black. It consists of a Choker section which measures approximately 8 inches long x 2 inches wide. The crafter backed this section with Navy Blue fabric. Then the crafter added a 3/4 wide Orange Silk Ribbon to the ends to serve as a tie to fasten the Necklace.
From top on necklace to bottom including the fringe it measures approximately 15 1/2 inches long x 5 inches across. At the bottom of this piece of Loom work, the crafter attached Bead Fringe in the same colors as the rest of the Necklace. A previous owner wore this Necklace. It remains in excellent condition without any kind of damage or repairs.
