This decorative leather warrior shirt or ghost shirt as it is called represents a rich part of Indian history with great attention to detail, handcrafted with real elk skin leather. Used during the famous ghost dance, derived from the traditional circle dance, ghost shirts reflect a rich Native heritage.

The circle dance is the same as many traditional dances still performed today during Native American pow wows. Made with real elk hide, brass and horse hair, this rustic shirt is intended to be used as a southwestern style wall hanging. Intricately hand stitched, this war shirt has great eye appeal. American Indian war shirts were originally made using items found in battle.

Rough cut leather gives this shirt its warm look and feel of rich quality. Genuine horse hair fringe adds to the rustic look of this leather shirt. This is a high quality warshirt that looks fantastic.

This shirt also includes a bone hair pipe breast plate and medicine wheels with the four directions of earth. Shirts with hair have been called scalp shirts, but they were only made with hair locks. Sometimes the same areas were decorated with fringe providing the flowing motion and a luxurious richness to the shirt. A shirt could also be filled with vivid paintwork or pictograph artwork. Early shirts were painted and decorated with quill-work and bigger beads. In the last part of the 19th century, shirts became more colorful with smaller beads and more intricate designs.
