Antique Seed Beaded Collar Necklace Native American Indian Jewelry RARE 100+ Yrs

This rare beautiful handmade Native American collar necklace is well over 100 years old and in excellent condition. The note that is shown in the picture was written by my mother 25 years ago.

I looked up the genealogy of our family to try to date this necklace. It looks like it would have been made around the late 1800's to possibly early 1900's.

The note says, One hundred years old jewelry probably from Aunt Estella's visit to Big Timber, Montana to visit her Uncle George Cook. George Cook was my great Grandmother's (Susanna Cook Garrison) brother.

That was written by my mother who was born in 1927 (and she is referencing her great grandmother's brother). The necklace is 33" long by a little over 1" wide and is handcrafted with intricate seed bead-work in black, white and red colors.

It has a 1 diameter decorative abalone button on it and it fastens with a hook and eye on the back. I don't see any flaws on this lovely piece. Showcasing traditional Native American art, this necklace traces back to the Flathead Indian Reservation, adding historical depth to its already captivating allure.

It was most likely made by the Confederated Salish or Kootenai Tribes of the Flathead Nation (also known as the Bitterroot Salish, Kootenai, and Pend d'Oreilles) since they primarily inhabited the Flathead Indian Reservation in western Montana, which includes lands near Big Timber. That area has been home to those tribes for thousands of years (per online research). This charming piece reflects the rich cultural heritage of Native American craftsmanship, specifically in the United States. The detailed beading on this lovely piece of jewelry is a testament to the artistry and skill of the indigenous artisans of that era. Don't miss out on owning a rare piece of American Indian history!
