Antique Plains / Native American Beaded Vest w. Elk and Floral Theme about 1910? This incredible piece is said to have been left behind by the Indian riders of the Buffalo Bill show that toured around the turn of the century and was in a Pennsylvania estate for around a century.
It has faded ink drawings on the back that appear to represent a (teepee painting/ ledger drawing style) armed war chief and Buffalo head. I guess these were plans for more beading. The vest is small something like a sz. 38 jacket measuring around 18" across partly open and 25 " total length. A beaded buckskin lace hangs down on one flap, perhaps a remnant of closure ties. There are sections of missing beads which appear to be caused by usage stress (the rodeo war path probably) I have enjoyed it hanging on the wall as art for many years, it is truly beautiful and evocative.
